The purple contrasts brilliantly with the bright green of the young leaves of the Tipa trees. Carlos Thays (my favorite 19th century French Landscape Artist) knew what he was doing when he planted these trees so close together all those many years ago. It is especially stunning in Plaza San Martin as there aren't so many Jacarandas and they lend a surprising burst of color.
I hope you enjoy the sample of some of my photos and the embedded slideshow below. You can see a larger slideshow on Flickr. There is also a photo essay up on The Argentina Independent.

What a treat to see these lovely photos which arrived via my rss feed. They remind me of my happiest days in the city and how glorious it can be. Thank you, Beatrice.

You're welcome Lilas! I hope you are well and that you enjoyed this little bit of purple beauty from afar. Thanks for reading!
this is perfect! the weather just got incredibly gray in SF
My parents have just left Buenos Aires after a month visiting me and in the last week or so they have been loving these trees. My mum thought they were Jacarandas and now I can confirm - thanks ;o)
Thanks for stopping by Mr. Solid & jontyjago. Glad I could brighten up your day and confirm your Mum's guess. I hope your parents enjoyed Buenos Aires. They picked the perfect time for a visit.
Astonishing pictures Beatrice. There are quite a few jacarandas here in São Paulo City too, especially at Ibirapuera Park. I will try to photograph them and post in my blog. I was missing your posts here. Excellent in the Argentina Independent too. Congratulations. Happy thanksgiving.
HELLO BEATRICE!! QUE MARAVILLA DE BLOG. TU FOTOS DE ARBOLES SON LINDAS. IMAGENS MUY BELLAS DE BUENOS AIRES.. FELICITACIONES..
YO SOY DE BRASIL DE LA CIUDAD DE PORTO ALEGRE..

Gorgeous pictures!!! Thanks for letting me see my city from another angle. I was astonished by the "secret" garden you found in Plaza Miserere (Plaza Once). I usually drive thru the area and always thought it was barren land. I added your blog to my favorites blogs list so that more people can enjoy and get to know my city. http://dondehogar.blogspot.com/
Beautiful blog. I loved!
Wow! Gorgeous photos!
We have Jacarandas in our neighborhood. They are so beautiful!

when is the best time to see them? How long is the bloom? I have seen online there is a tree tunnel of jacarandas in Buenos Aires... but I can not locate where? Do you know where that is? Thank you! :)
Michelle - the best time to see them is in November and there is a sort of "tunnel" of jacarandas in Plaza Lavalle in Tribunales. It's gorgeous.
